Who the card is for
The Indigo Mastercard is meant for people who want to build or rebuild credit, have been turned down for other cards and can’t put down a security deposit. It doesn’t offer rewards or travel benefits. Because of its fees and APR, it works best if you keep your balance low and pay in full every month.
Who can apply
According to Indigo, to be approved you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have a valid Social Security number, a physical address and a U.S. IP address
- Not have had an Indigo Mastercard account charged off due to delinquency
- Meet additional credit criteria, including a review of your income, your debts and your identity
Approval isn’t guaranteed, and you can only have one Indigo Mastercard account. Under federal law, applicants under 21 must also show enough independent income to make the payments.
Information you’ll need to apply
The application is online, and you don’t need to upload documents to start it. Have this information ready:
- Full legal name and date of birth
- Home address
- Social Security number
- Total annual income
Indigo may ask for additional information to verify your identity.
How to apply for the Indigo® Mastercard®
- Go to the Indigo website and open the application form. If you received an offer in the mail, use the mail offer option on the website instead.
- Fill in your personal and financial information. There’s no option to apply by phone.
- Review the terms shown to you, including the annual fee, APR and credit limit, before you accept.
- Wait for the decision. If you’re not approved, no hard inquiry appears on your credit report.
After you’re approved
In most cases, the card arrives within 14 business days of approval. If it hasn’t arrived within 21 days, call the Lost/Stolen Department at 1-800-314-6340.
Once you have the card, create a login on Indigo’s online account portal to manage your account and pay your bill. Before using the card outside the U.S., call customer service to set a travel alert, or foreign transactions may be declined.
How the credit limit works
Indigo sets your credit limit when it approves your application. A limit of $300 is common. Indigo doesn’t publish information about credit limit increases, so if you want a higher limit, contact customer service to ask whether your account is eligible.
With a low limit, keep your balance well below it. Using a large share of your limit raises your credit utilization, which can lower your score.

Our take on the Indigo® Mastercard®
The Indigo Mastercard gives people with damaged or limited credit a way to build a payment history without a security deposit. That access comes at a price, with an annual fee, a high APR and a low limit. If you can afford a deposit, a secured card with no annual fee is usually the cheaper route. If you choose Indigo, pay on time, keep your balance low and reassess your options after a year.
