The TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card can be a good option for Canadians who want to earn higher cash back on day-to-day spending, especially if they spend a lot on groceries, gas, transit and recurring bills.

It comes with a $139 annual fee and a minimum income requirement. In return, it offers higher cash back in specific categories and includes Visa Infinite benefits, travel insurance and roadside assistance.

Below, you’ll find the card’s fees, rates and eligibility requirements, and an explanation of how it works, so you can decide if it fits your budget and routine.

Who is the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card for?

This card is for Canadian residents who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory, meet TD’s income requirement and want higher cash back in everyday categories. According to TD, you need:

  • A minimum personal annual income of $60,000, or
  • A minimum household annual income of $100,000.

In practice, it makes the most sense for people who use the bonus categories often. If most of your spending falls outside these categories, or you don’t meet the income requirement, a card with a lower fee may be a better fit. TD offers the TD Cash Back Visa Card for people who don’t meet the income requirement.

TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card benefits

The main value of this card is its cash back structure. According to TD, the card earns:

  • 3% in Cash Back Dollars on eligible Grocery, Gas & Electric Vehicle Charging, and Public Transit purchases, on up to $15,000 in annual purchases in each of these categories;
  • 3% in Cash Back Dollars on eligible Recurring Bill Payments, and Streaming, Digital Gaming & Media purchases, on up to $15,000 in combined annual purchases;
  • 1% in Cash Back Dollars on all other eligible purchases, and on purchases in a 3% category once its annual cap is reached.

You can redeem Cash Back Dollars at any time to help pay down your balance, with a minimum redemption of $25. They don’t expire as long as your account is open and in good standing.

The card also includes Visa Infinite benefits, such as the 24/7 Visa Infinite Concierge, the Visa Infinite Luxury Hotel Collection and the Visa Infinite Dining Series, plus a free Deluxe TD Auto Club membership with 24/7 roadside assistance.

For travel and purchases, the card includes:

  • Travel Medical Insurance: up to $2 million for the first 10 days of a trip, or the first 4 days if you or your spouse is 65 or older;
  • Delayed and Lost Baggage Insurance: up to $1,000 per insured person if your baggage is delayed more than 6 hours or lost;
  • Auto Rental Collision/Loss Damage Insurance: when you charge the full cost of the rental to your card;
  • Purchase Security and Extended Warranty Protection: coverage for most eligible new items stolen or damaged within 90 days of purchase;
  • Mobile Device Insurance: up to $1,000 for loss, theft, accidental damage or mechanical breakdown of eligible devices.

Insurance coverage is subject to the terms, limits and exclusions in the Certificate of Insurance provided with the card.

Credit card limit

TD doesn’t publish a single credit limit for this card. Your limit is set by TD based on its assessment of your application, including factors like your income, credit history and existing debt.

A simple way to use any credit limit responsibly is to avoid carrying a balance and to pay your full statement balance by the due date. This way, you avoid interest on your purchases.

Our opinion about the TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card

The TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card can be worth it for Canadians who spend regularly in the bonus categories, like groceries, gas, transit and recurring bills. At 3%, you’d need to spend about $4,630 per year in these categories just to cover the $139 annual fee.

The card also stands out for its insurance package and roadside assistance, although travel medical coverage is limited to the first 10 days of a trip (4 days if you or your spouse is 65 or older).

However, if you often carry a balance from month to month, the 21.99% interest rate will quickly outweigh the cash back you earn. In that case, a low-interest credit card may be a better choice.
